Maddie Wright persuaded her cousins Millie and Beth, Mum Becky and Nan Teresa to help her hold a coffee morning on Saturday 1st May 2010 at Rye Harbour Village Hall to raise money for Rye Harbour RNLI Lifeboat Station.
The event was a great success, raising £185.38. There was a cake stall, tombola, raffles, bric-a-brac and refreshments.
This is not the first time that Maddie has raised money for the RNLI. Maddie took part in the RNLI SOS Day 2010 'Stroll Our Shore' Welly Walk held at Rye Harbour on Saturday 30 January 2010, raising £50.
Teresa Sutton, Maddies Nan, said: 'I don't think Maddie will stop until she has raised enough money to pay for a pair of welly boots for each of the crew'.
Steve Tollett, RNLI Chairman for Rye Harbour RNLI Lifeboat Station, said: ‘It is really heartening that there are youngsters who want to raise money for the RNLI. A pair of wellies cost around £40; to pay for wellies for the crew at Rye Harbour will cost around £900. It is fundraising like this that enables the RNLI to equip their volunteer crews to continue saving lives at sea’
